You probably do not use your E39 bluetooth phone anymore. Don't waste this space in your car and print my inlay to make this area useful for you. There are different versions available, I hope you will be able to chose the most fit for you;) I personally use the one with the grooves for phones. Verify dimensions against the original part and confirm full operation before regular use.
