Door Speaker Spacer Adapter

BSD License. !!! DO NOT EVER, EVER, EVER! PRINT CAR PARTS WITH PLA !!! PLA WILL reach glassing temperatures on hot sunny days, no matter WHERE in the car the part goes. PETG, ABS, or other similar higher-temp filament is REQUIRED With that safety disclaimer now out of the way, a comprehensive write-up to answer every question you might have, before you even think to have it :-) FEATURES ADJUSTABLE DESIGN via OpenSCAD – if this doesn't fit your car, you can very easily change parameters as needed so that it does. File includes a TEST_FIT mode with adjustable height so you don't need to print off an entire bracket to confirm fitment. As currently coded, it's limited to three screw tabs for the car door itself, however you could jury-rig something up M3 or M4 speaker-securing bolt options, and an option to use either captive nuts or brass heated inserts as well! PLEASE NOTE: M4 heated insert dimensions must be supplied in the M4HeatsertDia and M4HeatsertDepth variables for this to work correctly. I've never used M4 so I don't have a good hole size offhand. Brass heated inserts are installed at the top of the bracket, while captive nuts are installed at the bottom. Both have fully pass-through holes for their respective bolts to go through. CLEAR AND COMMENTED CODE thanks to being a senior full-stack systems architect a.k.a. code monkey. No unhelpful variable names or confusing blocks of code here! :-) EXTRA PADDING FOR NUTS – ever see a design where the securing bolt holes are exactly as deep as the bolt is long, so the bolt could in theory scratch up whatever it's attached to? Or a captive nut hole that sits exactly on the same surface that's supposed to fit on something else? This avoids both issues, thanks to a 2mm-deep gap between the nut and the bottom of the bracket, and a 1-2mm gap between the bolt and the bottom of the bracket when using an MX Designs MX-7. DESCRIPTION Speaker adapter spacer bracket for a variety of Subaru vehicles with potential fitment for Toyota, Scion, and Lexus vehicles. The Metra 82-8148 bracket was ever so slightly too tight for the 6.8" CDT Audio “MX Designs” MX-7, so I decided to design and print this bracket off instead. Bolt pattern matches up exactly with Subaru part #86301AL61A – click here for a full list of Outbacks that fully confirmed to fit, and Legacy years/trims that the bolt holes are confirmed to fit, i.e. you still need to verify the mounting depth. The windows on the rear doors of 2015 thru 2019 Subaru Outbacks don't reach down far enough, but I can't confirm if the same holds true for the Legacy. This bracket MIGHT also fit additional vehicles (like Imprezas, Crosstreks, XV's, etc.) supported by the Metra 82-8148 bracket, however the Metra bracket bolt holes include slots that appear to fit variations that are slightly off, so I cannot confirm other makes/models. For all makes/models that the Metra 82-8148 fits and to see if the adapter has the potential to fit your car without modifications, click here for the MetraOnline product page with partial list of fitment applications and/or check Crutchfield's “Does it fit your car?” feature on their product page for the Metra 82-8148 here for a far more comprehensive list. Again, these are cars that it MIGHT fit due to the Metra bracket including slot holes for the screws and are NOT guaranteed to fit. TO FULLY CONFIRM, print off the “Test fit” STL and see if the holes etc. line up and screw in correctly. If it doesn't, thanks to the parametric design, it should fit a LOT more vehicles with minor tweaks :-) If you are using a different speaker, but the car door screws line up correctly, you only need to adjust any variables starting with Woofer_ -- do NOT forget to adjust Woofer_Ring_Depth with the mounting ring thickness in mind so that whatever bolts you use will still work without going through the bottom. It's currently set to 22mm, i.e. a mounting bracket thinner than 3mm will NOT work as the bolts will stick out the bottom and into the metal of the door frame. SPECIAL NOTE If you use captive nuts, you WILL need to use 25mm-long bolts!!! Brass heated inserts can accept up to 25mm in length, but no more than “long enough to be threaded in fully” is necessary. Wiring is behind-the-door ONLY – Due to differences in how speaker wiring can be run and the sizing of connectors thereof, I opted to force wiring to exit the back, and modify my Metra 72-8104 harnesses to use ferrules instead of spade connectors. I then took off the pop rivet securing the wiring to the front of the panel, fed it back into the door along the main harness, wrapped it around once or twice, and then into the speaker terminals. If you want to run wiring through the side of the bracket, you'll have to either boolean “difference” the STL itself (either in the slicer, by editing the OpenSCAD file, or making adjustments via other CAD software), or drill a hole where needed or file/dremel a slot where needed. For maximum strength of the part, print with three or more perimeters, five or more top shell layers, and enough bottom shell layers so that the car door screw tabs finish printing before the bottom shell layers are done. For the included setup – 4mm tabs @ 0.2 layer height, this amounts to OVER 20 shell layers. Remember, INFILL IS NOT STRUCTURAL!!! Plastic does not deform, it cracks, and infill has negligible impact on this. I wound up using 35 bottom shell layers, 5 top shell layers, and three perimeters. Remember, out of all the things 3D printing is used for, a 300W peak mid-bass woofer in a sealed door chamber pushing exactly in the Z direction where not only do the raw mechanical forces create a profanely easy ability for layer separation failures, but internal air pressures aid and embed them from the sides as well. This bracket is supporting a juggernaut of the worst kinds of destructive forces ANY 3D printed part can endure – the more solidified you make the part via shell layers, the more peace of mind you'll have that it'll never fail at all. While it might be overkill, I'm not willing to test and find out (especially with how said strength ages), and neither should you. Injection-molded plastics are one thick piece and not prone to failures as a result, whereas FDM plastics are an outer shell with some structurally-meaningless filler and a tendency to fail along the layers, which is exactly where the stress of this part is. If you read through all of the above in full without missing a thing, you're the kind of person I write this for! We all know most will skim, and that's why the emphasis is where it is :-) REQUIRED PARTS (for pre-configured STL, per door) 6 x M4 nuts 6 x M4 25mm bolts 3 x 1.25" #10 screws (as of V2) 1 x CDT Audio / MX Designs MX-7 and wiring Double this if you want to print two spacers (12 nuts, 12 bolts, 6 screws, etc.) CHANGELOG V1 - 2023-04-02 Original Upload V2 - 2023-08-24 Mounting tabs thickened to ~3/4" to increase strength, which now requires 3 x 1.25" #10 screws per ring. Thinner tabs of V1 had a tendency to snap off with higher loads. Fixed DXF generation and commented the relevant line to do so in the .scad file DXF uploaded – due to OpenSCAD generating polygons rather than true geometric cylinders, the DXF itself uses polylines. I do not currently have a way to fix this.

Heater-Control Mounting Brackets

2024/01/12 - Update. The resin printed part became brittle and unfortunately broke after almost a year of use. Perhaps a ‘thicker’ version or different resin would hold up longer. 2023/01/28 Replacement brackets to hold heater instrument control in place. Contains direct replacement for out-of-production parts 66201FC020 and 66201FC020. I needed this part to convert to double-din console, European Subaru dealer couldn't order this part anymore. Original part is 1mm thick, recreated part is 2mm thick due to needed sturdiness and fits fine, without spacing. Print in resin or be wary of print direction and warping temperatures for inside of car. Double holes should be on top: 66201FC020 is left hand side (LH) 66201FC030 is right hand side (RH) Installation Advice: Insert into center sidewall first, since these are blind screws otherwise. Screw and bracket need to be fit tightly, otherwise heater control panel will move forward slightly creating a gap with the panel. Insert center console back into dash. Move heater instrument in place and screw in place Place dash front panel and click in place Put gear shift panel in back place Put handbrake panel back in place

Fuse-Panel Lid Storage Bin

Small storage to stow away keys, spare fuses, cash or other small items. The printed part attaches securely to the driver side Fuse panel lid part# 66135AJ020. Subaru uses the same fuse lid part# 66135AJ020 on its various other models like Outback, Crosstrek, BRZ etc. Please check the part number on the fuse lid to ensure compatibility. The .stl model will load upside down in slicer, Reorient the model to lay flat on the base. (See. attached slicer picture). No supports required for this print. Print the part in PETG preferably as PLA parts will deform inside a hot car left outside in summer sun.

Hood Prop Rod End CapC3D–02418
SubaruDoors, bonnet, boot & bed hardware

Hood Prop Rod End Cap

This is a printable replacement for a Subaru Impreza hood support rod end cap - or whatever you want to call the plastic part that fits into the hood slot when the rod is raised. This piece (white piece in picture) broke on our 2016 Impreza and Subaru seems to only sell the entire rod, not just the cap piece, so I decided to take a whack at modeling and printing a new one. I'm new to Fusion 360, so it took a few tries, but this one is working nicely for me. I'm not sure which other Subaru models/years this would work for, but there's not really much to it, so if it looks like the part in the picture, you can give it a shot! The part is pretty close to the original, though I did beef it up a bit in the area where the original one broke. I also set infill at 50% which might be overkill, but it seemed better to overbuild. You'll need to print with supports, and be sure to have your xacto handy to do some somewhat fiddly cleanup. I printed this using Prusament Galaxy Black PLA, mainly because it's all I have on hand, but let's face it, the engine compartment of a Subaru Impreza could use a little glittery bling, right?

Door-Release Lever Screw CoverC3D–02417
SubaruInterior doors & windows

Door-Release Lever Screw Cover

Lost one of my screw head covers from the door release handle of my Subaru Forest (2004). Designed this to replace, fits well, if needed use a lighter etc to soften the prongs and gently tease outwards slightly to get a better fit (secure clip). Be careful as they are delicate. Print a few at a time to give yourself spares, and also keep the print head moving allowing the tiny clips to cool between layers. Print in ABS (might be ok in PLA, just be super careful with the prongs!)

Door-Speaker MountsC3D–02416

Door-Speaker Mounts

I recently blew the door speakers in my Australian 2003 Subaru Outback wagon only to find i needed to make a mount to allow the fitment of new aftermarket speakers. The following STLs will fit the three-point fitment holes in BH Outbacks 1999-2003. You'll need to print two rear and one of each front as they are angled. The door skins will fit perfectly over the mounts no problem. I printed mine in PolyMaxx at 75% infill as I wanted something solid to screw the speakers to, but that may have been overkill. No supports required. I also suggest some sort of stick on foam strip like door sealer on the face that touches the door to prevent rattles and make a better seal for bass.

Turn-Signal Connector Dust CoverC3D–02412

Turn-Signal Connector Dust Cover

I have bought white/yellow WY21W switchbacks for DRL on my 06 Outback. I do not like to see connector unprotected or covered by electrical tape. So I made simple cover that also hold resistor (M3 screw) and could by mounted with M6 bolt or ziptie. Hole for wires is sealed with hot glue / silicon sealant. On left side I had some empty holes on bracket behind batery so I could mount it with screw. On righ side I had to mount it with zip tie on back side of bracket between headlight and airbox.

Nexus 7 Center-Console AdapterC3D–02411

Nexus 7 Center-Console Adapter

This is an adapter to be used to install a Nexus 7 2013 to the center console of a Toyota86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. It has been designed using the LHD version center console of the pre facelift model of this car. Status: -printed, installed, fully tested and working Note: -The center console cover´s frame needs to be cut of for some milimeters. The design would have been possible without that, but the panel of the Tablet would sit too deep to use the full screen area for touch commands. So I dicided to go this way. Anyway, the cover is still fitting the OEM headunit with this modification in case you want to go back to the OEM headunit. -I used grey PETG for the covers and didnt perform any further treatment before installation. But it is of course possibe to change the color or surface by painting the covers. The covers can also easily be exchanged to get another color or to install another HU. Instrutions: -recommended material for printing PETG -Print the "cover_*" without supports and a layer height of 0,06mm -Print the "base_*" with the screw holes facing towards the build plate and use supports -For the "base_*" include a print pause at a layer hight of 6mm to insert a M3 hexagon nut into both screw holes. Use a glue stick and apply some glue to the upper side of the inserted nut to help the following layers to stick on it. -Cut the frame of the OEM center console before inserting of the "base_". Use the file "center_console_*" to see how the cutting has to be performed

Front-Door Speaker AdapterC3D–02408

Front-Door Speaker Adapter

I designed this speaker adapter to mount a pair of hertz speakers for a friend on his Subaru Forester (model year 1997). The speakers are 165mm wide and he bought them from amazon (Hertz dcx 165). The adapter can be mounted on the front doors panel using the original screws and to link the speaker to the adapter you have to use the original screws plus one because it has four holes. To prevent vibration on the panel, it's recommended to put a little layer of insulation material on the adapter's surface that is in contact with the door's panel (as the original speaker mount). The adapter has two grooves, to pass the wires; and the higher depth of the speaker isn't a problem for the door glass (when you pull it down), it doesn't touch it.

Shift-Lock Release Cover

The cover, plug or insert is for the transmission release whole that is usually in the upper left of the automatic shifter in the Subaru Forester. It is very similar to the Outback (Part No: 35181AG00A) however the Outback part is about half the height of the Forester Cover Release. The Cover Release is individual sold for the Outback but in order to get it for the Subaru Forester you have to buy the whole shift indicator plate (Part No: 35170FG080) for the console. It costs anywhere between $80-$125 dollars.

Front Center-Console Storage Door and TrayC3D–02400

Front Center-Console Storage Door and Tray

Subaru Forester SH 2009-12 To fit the large storage hole in the front centre dash area (below the heater controls)> I found I didn't like putting anything in there as it was always on "show" for potential thieves etc. So the idea was to have a small cubby hole with door, and then a small tray above (tray fits next to the 12v socket above the door/frame.) Works ok, is reasonable "neat" - fix in place using (a large amount of) double sided foam trim tape. PETG or ABS preferred due to heat in cars may warp PLA, but I have had success with PLA in cars, as long as not in direct light etc (which this is not). First attempt so could be improved. Dry fit and measure the position first, the frame needs to be in place first so measure vs the tray. 1mm x 6mm magnets in the lid/frame. 2mm (M2) bolts in the hinges of the lid. Feel free to modify or improve.
